Xanthosoma brasiliense (Desf.) Engler

Xanthosoma brasiliense (Tahitian spinach) is native to the Amazon and now domesticated around the tropical regions of the world. It is grown for its edible leaves which are used raw in salads or lightly cooked. Cooking renders the low quantities of toxic calcium oxalate non-irritating. The leaves are used in the Caribbean as an ingredient in Callaloo. Its corms are not considered edible.

In English, Calalou (Xanthosoma brasiliense (Desf.) Engler) is known by Calalou or Tannier spinach.

Looking at a tree see its fruit; looking at a man see his deeds.
