Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot, maranta, or West Indian arrowroot) is a large, perennial herb which probably originated in the Amazonian rainforest. Its starch and flour are used in a variety of preparations and arrowroot is also considered an easily digestible food suitable for both infants and convalescents.
